In the recent months, I have not let go of a special thought. And when I did not deal with this thought, it was pointed out by others. So I had to ask myself the following question: Why do I like sleeping in hostels and exposing myself to the daily uncertainty?
The answer ist quite easy. When I look back, I always knew that I was made for it. Already when I was a small girl, I had realized that I want more than just a normal village life.
So I went to the city for some time to find my happiness there. For my circumstances I stayed there quite a long time: exactly 7 years and 7 months.
During this time I realized that I like the city life, but it is not fulfilling. Again and again I played with the idea of changing my life. I wanted to go abroad. Maybe a job in Spain, a life in Mexico or a trip through South America. Over the years I had a lot of things going through my head. But in the end I didn’t do anything but did my annual holidays in Spain, trips to Mexico and other countries. So why did I fail and what stopped me?
What keeps us from fulfilling our dreams
Often, it is your thoughts that keep you from getting closer to your dreams. The stressful everyday life attracts us so strongly that our thoughts are in it to 100 percent, and at the end of the day, only little space remains to see our real dreams.
Everyone has their own dreams and ideas about life. But instead of living it, we go into the office, day in, day out and deal with problems that are not ours.
We live every day in this stressful everyday life and let ourselves be distracted by imbalances. At the end of our lives, we will unhappily look back and may regret what we have not done.
Excuses over excuses
Human beings are good in finding excuses. This applies to every situation. You find excuses for why you are sick, why you can not go to the gym tonight, and why you continue to stick to the unhappy relationship. If we look for something, we find something. It’s that simple. So you will always find a reason not to do something.
Perhaps, like me, you feel unfulfilled in your job. I found a lot of excuses to continue working and not to go on a journey. Security, career and much more – again and again I found new reasons why I could not give up the job.
Let me ask you a question: Do you love your job and does it fulfil you? If you can answer this question with a clear YES, you belong to the minority. Studies show how dissatisfied we people are with our job. This shows that we are not at all satisfied with our lives.
What are your strengths?
If we are aware of it and have realized that we should change something, we are facing the next hurdle: What should we change? Of course you can not cancel your job from today to tomorrow and go on a trip. Something like this takes time.
But what if I tell you now that this is possible within a few months? Would you do it then? Maybe it is not even your goal to travel. Maybe you just want to do a job that matches your skills. But what are your skills? What can you do and what do you like?
Even if you have a first-rate job for which everyone envies you and you are well paid – are you happy? Can you do what you love or do you just do what you’re paid for?
It has always been easy for me to meet new people and devote myself to new tasks. I’ve always wanted a lot of options in my life, but at the same time my routine. I love to read, write and to be active and creative. How about you? What are your strengths?
Because I knew I was made for it
Already at the age of 15, I knew I would not live my whole life in a village and would use the next opportunity to get on my way. Something already told me that my heart is in Costa Rica and / or Central America. And that was ultimately the case.
Here in Central America, I feel well and I can devote myself to what makes me really happy – writing, reading and meeting new people.
Right now I live a life that fulfils me. It just feels good to decide at any time where and with what and whom I spend my day.
So what about you? What do you want and what really fulfills you? I am sure that you, too, have always known what you really want. And I’m sure in the inside you know your strengths.
Don’t forget: You only live once!
